Dr. Smith grew up in eastern Iowa and attended Iowa State University for her undergraduate studies and veterinary school.  She received her DVM from ISU in 2008.  Dr. Smith completed an internship at the historic Elgin Veterinary Hospital outside Austin, TX then went on to complete a surgical residency at Oklahoma State University.  She became board certified in surgery and a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2013.

Dr. Smith returned to alma mater (ISU) and served as the emergency surgeon for a period of time before returning to private practice in Texas.  In 2018, she decided to make the move back home to Iowa and started Integrity Equine shortly after.
